So. I've been in a weird mental zone lately. Alotta ups and downs going on in my world. I'm just tryna keep plugging away and stay on point..... Adapt, adjust, progress and/or elevate, That's my motto for tough times.
Anyways, I've taken a break from training and fighting for a bit. I decided to give my family a summer that I can be available for. It can get hard to balance a full training schedule, keep up with my tattoo clients needs, as well as be a husband and a father. As much as I hate to say it, fighting/training was the most expendable thing on that list, as well as the thing that took the hardest toll on me. So, I decided to take a break to decide what I really wanna do with myself. Kinda just letting my world flow a bit and see where it takes me......
During this time I have been TATTOOING MY ASS OFF!!!! Ive probably tattooed more in these past few months than the entire year before. As a result, my creative juices have been reawakened and are flowing in full force right now. Be on the lookout for updated tattoo photos, as well as Tattoo Convention/ Tattoo Shop Guest Spots updates because my art hand is in full force right now.
While trying to focus on tattooing and family, I have also been in the weight room bulking up a bit. Anyone who knows me knows that I usually walk around pretty close to fight weight. I started hearing murmurs saying that I should drop to 170, but 170 isn't a weight class I wish to fight in. I've done it once and it was the worst I've felt in a fight, as well as my worst performance to date. So, through a 4000-5000 calorie a day diet and a steady dose of circuit training in the weight room at a phrenetic pace, I've jumped up to 200-205 at only 8% body fat. As opposed to the 189, 6% I was walking at a few months ago.
It's been a few months since I've trained consistently, but I'm starting to get that itch back in a major way. I've slowly been wandering into a few gyms while I was on the road tattooing for the past week or so. I popped up at my boy Isaac DeJesus's spot in Fresno, THRIVE MMA while I was tattooing at Red Wave and got rejuvenated a bit while I was there. Isaac is one of the guys that was around my training circle when I first got started in MMA. Of the circle in which we came to know each other, he and I are the only ones still actively fighting.
I also popped up at Strikeforce Fighter Raul Castillo's spot in Half Moon Bay to check it out since I will be living a few miles away in a few short months. I got a good vibe from that place, as well as from Raul and will definitely be back in that building on a regular basis.
As soon as I get back to Sac (I'm in the Bay Area for another day or two) I'm getting back on the mat at Ultimate Fitness. It's been long enough of a break. I'm not getting any younger (36) and have some goals I need to accomplish. I'm in good shape, but FAR away from fight shape right now. Time to start rebuilding. Not too mention the fact that there is a huge portion of me that needs (not just wants) to fight/train. As crazy as it sounds, training/fighting is the sedative that keeps me calm and sane through the trials and tribulations the world continues to throw at me.
While the world throws all at me that it can, I'll just be sittin here, tinkering and building myself. It's turning out to be quite the MACHINE!!!!! Stay tuned.....
